SSI not working

Can someone help me use SSI on windows site?

Symptoms:
works: <!--#include file="pagedata.txt"-->

doesn't work: <!--#echo var="SCRIPT_NAME"-->

I've enabled SSI and SSI exec in my CP.
Any clues?
