Hmm... wonder if this glitch is in anyway related to the poor performance I (sometimes) get with Web4 and Joomla?

Thanks Stephen - yes I've looked at the logs (some are quite huge) but I'm not really sure what to look for. I opened them in Notepad and searched for the string "security" but no joy. Meanwhile the error 500 is still happening.

A client wants to know if emails sent from his office by his secretary can be secretly forwarded to his own email address - ie spy on his employee. Is this possible (ethics aside)?

Seemed to have solved the problem, and it works with AOL too :-) In Joomla I set SMTP with SMTP Auth (but no SSL etc) and used port 25 (587 didn't work - why I don't know???)

Today (8 Apr) all Joomla sites working much better. Thank you for getting it sorted.

I have several Joomla sites on MySql 8 and Web 4 and today their performance has been truly awful. Raised a ticket but they pretty much ignored it and said the sites were working. They do, *occasionaly*, so I'm looking forward to this issue being resolved as soon as possible.

Thanks Cdog, Stephen, NZKiwi et al - what a complex subject - give me General Relativity/Riemanns Hypothesis any time! I'll keep slugging away and see what I come up with, but in the meantime any suggestions will be most gratefully accepted.

Tried 587 but no joy. In fact I've exhausted the possibilities with SMTP so I'm trying to get the site to use Gmail servers, but again, no joy so far. Ultimately, I'll just have to ignore AOL members!

Further to above, it makes no difference whether I set SMTP auth to ON or OFF in Joomla, emails still don't get sent. I'm guessing that SMTP Host means SMTP server name? .....most frustrating....in this day and age.....rant rant.....it wasn't like this in my day....rant...
